We’re the Beak – Greenwich High’s official school newspaper. We aim to publish at least six print issues each year, with regularly updated online issues. The online version is brand new so please take a few minutes to check it out! The Beak has eight different sections that anyone can write for: News, Entertainment, Features, Sports, Science, Opinions, Business, and Multicultural. There are around 20-30 active writers, 7 section editors, and 3 editors-in-chief. Being part of the Beak is a great way for your writing to get published; we print over 600 copies every issue!
While some might think otherwise, joining the Beak is not a significant commitment at all. Members can choose which issue they’d like to write for as well as which section. Typically, article length is anywhere from 500 words to 1000 (although these are certainly not rigid guidelines) and topics should be relevant to high school or, preferably, to Greenwich High.
The application process to be an editor begins in April. In order to become an editor, it is required that you write for at least 3 print issues of the paper. Since this is only our first issue, keep that in mind! Our mass meetings will be announced in our Facebook group: GHS Beak Mass Group to 2017-2018, or through blast emails. We encourage you to come to mass meetings with a few article ideas in mind that can be discussed with your peers. More info to come on what it means to be an editor. First, we just want you to be involved as a writer!
You can find us in Sheldon Lab on Tuesdays and Thursdays if you have any questions or concerns, in addition to emailing us at email@example.com. Not interested in writing but still want to be part of the Beak? We are looking for a photographer to document the latest events occurring at GHS. Fun photos from Senior Dress Up Day or Homecoming? Send them to us! Interested in marketing? Apply to become a publicist for the Beak, assisting with the advertisement of the newspaper. If you have any feedback, feel free to share your thoughts with us. We look forward to hearing from you!
